Time is flying by in Year 3 and the children are working as hard as ever! This week we had an amazing world book day-the costumes were fantastic and the children were really enthusiastic about their favourite books. We are in the middle of our Science unit of work, the children have explored the different food groups and now have a greater understanding of the nutrients they need to be healthy. We have also looked at the skeleton and the children loved sorting some different animals into groups based on the skeletons that they have.
In maths we are in the middle of investing money and are looking at different strategies to add, subtract and convert different amounts - the children have been able to make some wonderful links between the strategies and real life problems.
3 weeks into the Spring term already! The time is flying in year 3 and the children, as always, have been working extremely hard. We have finished a literacy unit on explanation texts-where the children all created their own explanations about earthquakes and why they happen and are now exploring adventure stories!
In maths we are learning about how we can use our times tables to help with dividing and have even had a look at how we can use our tables facts to answer some super hard questions like 40 x 4 or 720 divided by 8.
We have transformed into Palaeontologists for our afternoon learning. Exploring different rocks and their uses and grouping rocks based on what they are like was a challenge. We have learnt about how soil is formed and also how fossils are formed - the children even had a go at creating some of there own fossils!
Take a look at some of the pictures below!
The children in year 3 have been doing some fabulous learning over the Autumn term and are so close to a well earned Christmas rest. The children have thoroughly enjoyed our Victorians topic alongside the different literacy and maths units we have been doing. Over the last couple of weeks the children have invented their own repeating poems about a magical box, transformed into historians to explore Victorian children and have been investigating multiplication and division.
