Year 3

Mr Tom Shepherd

Class Teacher

Hello everyone. I am the Year 3 class teacher. I have been teaching for 3 Years and am lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to return to St Newlyn East after being placed here as a student.

At the school I will be working closely with the year 4 class teacher Mr Hughes in overseeing the PE curriculum in the school and making sure that there are a number of extra curricular sports clubs on offer.

When not in the classroom, I am often found on a football pitch or attempting to surf (very grateful we have such fantastic lifeguards) but I will generally give anything a go!

The children in year 3 have been doing some fabulous learning over the Autumn term and are so close to a well earned Christmas rest. The children have thoroughly enjoyed our Victorians topic alongside the different literacy and maths units we have been doing. Over the last couple of weeks the children have invented their own repeating poems about a magical box, transformed into historians to explore Victorian children and have been investigating multiplication and division.
Citizen of the Week:
A special mention to our citizen this week - Nikola McCormack
Congratulations you should be proud of yourself for always listening and working hard - keep taking pride in your wonderful learning!
Enjoy the Christmas break and be ready to return to some Earth Shattering learning in January.
Friday 12th October
Year 3 have had a very busy week this week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed finishing off our history block of work all about Ancient Greeks - looking at how they have impacted the way we live and differences between Athenians and Spartans!
Congratulations to Willow on becoming our Citizen of the week for following the golden rules all of the time - especially working hard with her Legend in literacy!
Friday 28th September
Year 3 have had a fantastic week and I have been delighted with how the children are really showing that they can follow the Golden rules at all times. The children have enjoyed the Geography learning this week, we have looked at where Greece is on a map compared to other countries, the features of Greece and the United Kingdom and worked as teams to create a presentation about Ancient Greek Settlements
Citizen of the Week.
Congratulations Nicola on becoming our Citizen for following all the Golden rules - especially working hard!
Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school each week.
Homework challenges and a range of reading books will be being sent home in the not so distant future.
Don't forget to try and become a times table rockstar. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need help logging on.
The First term in Year 3...
Ancient Greece
During the first half term the children will be exploring Ancient Greece as part of our creative curriculum - looking at Ancient Greek art and artists, the history of Ancient Greece and the location itself in our Geography block of learning.
